Employee Spotlight: Wisdom Mills-Owoo

At Navigating Care, innovation thrives through people who are both deeply committed to our mission and energized by the challenge of improving the cancer care experience. This month, we’re excited to spotlight  Wisdom Mills-Owoo, whose creativity, technical expertise, and passion for building meaningful solutions make a real impact every day. From designing systems that streamline access to patient information to collaborating with colleagues in a culture that values purpose and curiosity, he brings a thoughtful, mission-driven approach to everything he does. His work not only strengthens our products—it helps lighten the burden for patients and families navigating cancer. Let’s get to know more about Wisdom!

Our product team likes to really push the envelope, and I feel like we’re always trying to ideate on ways to deliver their vision. I really enjoy that as a developer because it allows me to be creative, and gives me room to grow in ability to design software that solves complex problems.

I help retrieve, organize, and securely transmit patient data to our front end systems. This enables our UI team to construct a positive experience for cancer patients to ensure that they always have access to the information they need.

We developed a simplified One Time Passcode login flow for patients. It’s not the hardest thing I have worked on, but it felt like the most impactful because of the level of adoption it received.

Accessing your health information has never really been easy in this country, and it is especially difficult to find that information if you’re battling cancer at the same time. I like to think I’m doing my part to help by making sure the systems I build are easy to understand and integrate. Which hopefully makes it easier for our UI teams to build better experiences for our patients. Which in turn makes it easier for people going through cancer to keep track of their appointments, view their health records, and communicate with their healthcare professionals. Reducing the burden of cancer is a huge undertaking, and I’m one small part of an exceptional team that is trying to make that happen everyday.

Supportive, Challenging, and Driven.

My manager, Gary Manfredi, always gives me the support I need to be successful. He has taught me how to properly prioritize product goals while ensuring we build stable systems. My old manager, Roger Marckel, has exposed me to a long list of technologies and has given me the confidence to tackle complex problems.

My family. I always want to make them proud.

Professionally, I hope to continue learning how to build good software and improve my ability to teach others what I’ve learned. Personally, I would like to go from being someone whose life is an organized chaos, to someone who’s just organized.
